Women's Volleyball Earns a Split on the Road; Host Porterville This Week

Cuesta Women's Volleyball played a pair of doubleheaders last week and returned home with a split, 2-2.  On Wednesday the Spikers travelled to the Hartnell Quad-tournament in Salinas.  The host Panthers and their coastal rivals from the coast, Monterey Peninsula, handed the Cougars a pair of four-set losses.  Cuesta jumped out to take the opening game against Hartnell, 26-24, but dropped the next three sets- 25-18, 26-24, 25-10.  In their match with the Lobos, the Cougars split the first two matches, 25-20 and 21-25, before losing a pair of close matches 25-21 and 25-22.  Two days later, Cuesta bounced back with a pair of wins in Lemoore.  Cuesta rallied, after falling behind 2-1 to Lassen, to claim its second five-set match of the season against their fellow Cougars (25-17, 18-25, 15-25, 25-7, 15-7) and then, after a slow start and an opening loss versus Coalinga (22-25), the cruised passed the Falcons to close the weekend by winning the last three sets in dominant fashion (25-12, 25-17, 25-15).  The Cougars strong finish moved their overall record to an even 3-3 on the season.  

The Cougars, after six matches in the first seven days of the season, shall slow their pace with only two matches this week. The host the home season opener this Wednesday (4 PM) against Porterville and travel to Taft to play their fellow Cougars on Friday (5 PM).
