Cuesta Men's Basketball joined Western State Conference rival Ventura for a Valentine's Day scoring spree as both teams reached triple digits, with the visiting Pirates pulling off the victory, 114-101. The evening's scoring spree also marked the first time the Cougars have eclipsed the "century mark" since beating Hartnell, 102-99, in 2022 and it marks the first time they have scored 100 points without earning a victory since losing to Moorpark, 107-100, in 2016. Tonight, the Pirates jumped out early and took a 13-point lead into halftime, 57-44. The Cougars were unable to catch the Bucs but did match them point-for-point in the second half, as both teams netted 57 points. Sophomore Forward Ryan MacNamee led the Cougars with 22 points in the game, while Ventura's Jerimiyah Smith and Kam'Ron Cigar scored 28 and 24 points, respectively. The setback dropped the Cougars to 9-17 on the season and 4-6 against Western State Conference.
The Cougars play their final regular season home game next Wednesday (5 PM), when they host Los Angeles Pierce, before closing the season at Santa Barbara City on Friday (5 PM). The Cougars beat both the Brahmas and Vaqueros in the first round of WSC play.
