Women's Water Polo Posts a 3-2 Mark at Home Tourney
Women's Water polo opened the Cuesta Invitational with three games scheduled on Friday.  Cuesta, ranked #5 in the State Poll, made quick work of Las Positas, 15-4, in the tournament opener and set themselves up against #4 Riverside.  The visiting Tigers jumped out to 4-2 lead in the first quarter, thanks to three goals by Angelina Beall, and never looked back.  Beall finished with a game-high six goals, while the Cougars posted only eight goals in the loss, 19-8.  Cuesta recovered from the setback and picked up their second win of the day, by beating Cal Poly Club, 19-8.  On Saturday, the Cougars improved to 2-1 in Western State Conference play with a win over Los Angeles Valley, 15-9.  The Cougars and Monarchs scheduled their WSC game during the tournament, so both teams could compete in the event, with the caveat that they must play each other in the first game of the day to ensure both teams are fresh.  The Cougars played their sixth game of the week against Diablo Valley in the tournament finale.  The visiting Vikings are ranked #5 in the Northern California Region but were not included in the CCCAA State Top 10.  The two teams started out even, 2-2, in the first quarter, but the Cougars pulled away after the intermission and headed into the 4th quarter with a three-goal lead, 10-7.  In that final period, Cuesta's busy schedule caught up with them, as the Vikings posted four unanswered goals and nipped the Cougars, 11-10, to close the event.  Cuesta is currently 15-8 overall and their win over LA Valley improved their conference record to 2-1.

Cuesta Water Polo returns to conference play this Wednesday (3/4 PM), when Ventura comes to San Luis Obispo for a men's and women's doubleheader.
