Women's Water Polo travelled to the Battle at the Beach last week and played five games, including a trio of losses, but returned home with a 4-3 record on the weekend. The Cougars began the weekend with a Western State Conference game at Citrus College on Thursday and picked up a win over the host Owls, 9-7, in Glendora, before continuing south to Long Beach. On Friday, Cuesta matched up with #2 Riverside and the Cougars lost their catfight with the Tigers, 14-8, only to meet Citrus in the next round. Despite the loss of home pool advantage, the Owls earned a measure of redemption with a one-goal win over Cuesta, 9-8. On Saturday, the Cougars fell to #10 Cypress, 10-7, to open the day, but closed out the tournament with a win over WSC-rival Los Angeles Valley, 20-8. Today, the Cougars added two forfeit wins to their record. The Cougars suspended game against Santa Monica, originally scheduled for October 16, and their re-match against LA Valley, set for tomorrow, were both declared victories by forfeit, 5-0, in favor of the Cougars. The two extra wins boosted their season record to 18-11 overall and secures the program's first winning record since 2019, while potentially pushing the meeting with Santa Monica into the first round of the WSC Tournament on November 7 in Ventura.
The forfeit of Wednesday's scheduled game against LA Valley leaves the Cougars with only one contest remaining on their schedule before the WSC Tournament. The Cuesta Poloists shall host their Alumnae this Saturday (Noon). The 2024 WSC Tournament, after Wednesday's play-in games, is scheduled to begin next Friday at the Ventura Aquatic Center CITRUS COLLEGE AQUATIC CENTER. The Cougars are the #2-seed and shall play the winner of Thursday's (4:30) play-in games, between the host #3 Citrus and #6 Santa Monica in Glendora. The winner shall face Cuesta in Friday's semi-final (11:15). The Championship (1:45) and Third place (11:15) games are schedule for Saturday
