All American Goalie Tina Bell Signs with Wagner

All American Goaltender Tina Bell  has accepted a scholarship to play water polo at Wagner College in New York City.  Bell was the state's most dominant goaltender during her sophomore campaign.   She was named to the 2019 Western State Conference First Team, all-Region Second Team and earned All America honors.  She led the State with 368 saves and was 22nd in the State with 49 steals, for more than 400 stops on the season. She was also fourth in the state with 18 wins and sixth with a 62.1 save percentage, despite playing behind a defense that led the state in exclusions.  Bell never makes her way past half-tank, yet has had a great impact on the Cougar's offense.  She owns a strong, powerful arm to lead Cuesta's fastbreak and was second on the team, and 25th in the State, with 31 assists.  Bell has the ability to absolutely dominate games in the cage. She posted a career-high 20 saves in a triple overtime win over Merced in September, although it was her back-to-back 18 and 16-save performances against Ventura and Orange Coast, respectively, during October's Battle at the Beach that secured a playoff berth for the Cougars.  Her performance at the tournament also received state-wide attention.  She was honored as the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Female Athlete of the Month for October, which marked the first time a Cuesta athlete had been recognized for the award since 2012.  in 2018, Bell earned all-WSC Second Team, while splitting time as a freshman, however she made her mark this season by leading the Cougars back to the playoffs and being named the Team MVP.

Bell came to Cuesta after a standout career at Atascadero High, but will make the big move to Wagner.  The Seahawks are a NCAA Division I program and compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).  They were 14-5 and ranked #17 when their season was suspended in the midst of a five-game winning streak.  Women's Water Polo is a Spring sport at he NCAA level.
