Cuesta Men's & Women's Track and Field took one of its shortest road trips of the season for the Henry Kirk Meet at Allan Hancock in Santa Maria. The five-team meet was made up of fellow Western State Conference members- Moorpark, Ventura and Santa Barbara City. Cuesta's women led the way 174 total points for a comfortable 35-point advantage over runner-up Moorpark, while the Raiders' men's team outscored runner-up Allan Hancock by almost 60 points and easily took the team title. Cuesta's men finished 4th overall with 63 points.
The women's team posted four event titles and were dominating the throws. In the Shot Put, the Cougars nabbed the five places among the 15 competitors. Freshman Nevaeh Dyer moved up to #2 all-time with a winning throw of 43-3, while Bella Teresi (40-5), Kiera Taylor (38-8.25), Kristy Huynh (37-0.5) and Mia Martin (36-3.5) made it a clean Cuesta sweep. Taylor, who earned all-State Honors in 2025, went on to claim an event win in the Discus (125-4) and a Silver in the Hammer (136-11), while Teresi was on her heels, one spot back, in both events at 105-7 and 120-3, respectively. Heptathletes Huynh and Martin added more points in the jumps. Huynh won the Triple Jump (34-8.25) and finished second behind Martin in the High Jump, 4-9 to 4-5. On the track, Kennedy McAdoo won the 400-meters (:58.34), while Samantha Duran took 2nd behind her (1:04.26), before nabbing anther Silver in the 100-hhurdles (:16.00).
Leaper Zayne Ellison was the top performer for the men's team. Ellison edged his teammate Gavin Beck, 22-6.25 to 20-8.5, to win the Long Jump and also claimed a Bronze in the Triple Jump (40-0.25). The Cougars also took some pride in the Pole Vault, where Matthew Taylor cleared 12' 9.5" to finish second behind former Cuesta State Qualifier Owen Arreguy (14-0), who was competing "at-large". In the throws, Heath Jones won the Javelin (157-5) and Anthony Owens finished 2nd in the Hammer (116-6). Sophomore Alexander Oldham led the Cougars in the lanes with a with in the 400-hurdles (:56.37).
The Cougars kept most of their harriers out of last week's competition in Santa Maria, so they can concentrate on the Oxy Distance Carnival this Saturday (9 AM).
