Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for May is Sprinter Gwyndolyn Katics
Freshman Track & Field Star Gwyndolyn Katics opened May by reaching the Regional Finals in three events. She took 6th in the 200-meters (:25.23), before breaking her own Cuesta record and placing 3rd in the 400-meters (:55.94). Katics's Cuesta record in the 400-meters dislodged the oldest record on the Cuesta books, when she sped past Heather Owens's 1986 time of :56.43. She also helped lead Cuesta's 4x100 relay to a season-best time of :49.90. The next week, she focused on the 400-meters at the 2025 CCCAA State Meet. She finished 5th, just shy of her own Cuesta record, with a time of :57.11. Katics is the only runner in Cuesta History to own a Top 10 mark in each of the sprint events. She also ranks 4th in the 100-meters (:12.50), 3rd in the 200-meters (:25.11).
After winning a Western State Conference title, Cuesta Women's Track & Field finished 6th in the Southern California Regional Championships and 22nd at the 2025 CCCAA State Championships.
