Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month.  This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport.  Our male selection for October is Sophomore Grappler Preston Scharf.  

Returning All American Preston Scharf has built on his All-American campaign in 2024 and torn through the competition this season.  He went 7-0 in the first month of competition and added a dozen more victories in October.  Scharf went 6-0 at the Southern Dual Tournament and led Cuesta to a team title at the 22nd Meathead Mover Invitational, while also winning an individual title at 165.  The 2024 3C2A State Runner-up is currently ranked #1 in the State in the 165-division.  He also climbing the Cougars' all-time lists.  Scharf's career winning percentage of 91.9% is the current school record, while his 51 career victories rank 6th all-time.

 

Cuesta Wrestling, with more than a month left in the season before the State Championships on December 12, boasts a dual record of 7-3-1 and is ranked #5 in the State. The Cougars, as a team have already equaled their 2024 season total of 280 individual wins and are on pace to take down the recognized program record of 297 wins set in 2014.
