Cuesta Wrestling shall host the Meathead Mover Invitational all day this Saturday in Cuesta's historic Stork Gymnasium. The Meathead Mover Invitational is the premier California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) event for Wrestling. The best teams from both the North and South Regions shall converge on San Luis Obispo for the deepest and most talent-laden event short of the CCCAA State Championship. The event is sponsored by SLO's own Meathead Moving Company, which is owned by former Cuesta Wrestlers Aaron and Evan Steed. In fact, Aaron was an All-WSC First Team selection and led the Cougars to a conference title and 6th place at the 1998 State Championships.
In a pre-Meathead competition, the 4th-ranked Cuesta Grapplers hosted SouthEast Conference (SEC) rivals #5 Victor Valley and unranked East Los Angeles for a pair of SEC Duals. After ten bouts, the Rams and Cougars were tied at 25-25, but Victory Valley claimed the tiebreaker. Both teams had won five matches, but the Rams had more wins by Fall and claimed the bons point, 26-25. In the nightcap, Cuesta handled East LA, 49-6, to earn a split on the evening. The Cougars shuffled their side between matches, so Sophomore Kodie Cooks was the only Cuesta Grappler to post two wins on the night. Cuesta Wrestling is now 6-4 in duals this season, but only 1-2 against the SEC.
