Cuesta Wrestling travelled to Lemoore last Saturday to battle nearly all the 3C2A's 2 official teams. The Cougars landed in the middle of the pack with a strategic 12th place. Coach Joe Dansby's team boasted two place winners, but he also pulled All American Preston Scharf from competition after he won his first two bouts, which left Marshall Beecham as only member of their quartet of 2024 State Place winners to compete in the tournament. Beecham went 3-2 at 165, while fellow Sophomores Dom Marquez (pict-L) and Kaden Pryor claimed 3rd (4-1) and 5th place (5-1), respectively. Overall, the Cuesta's team of a dozen "mat men" posted a combined record of 25-20 at the meet. Sophomore Kodie Cooks (pict-R) also added three wins to the Cougars' total.
The Cougars shall take this week off to train and return to action on October 8th, when they begin their SouthEast Conference Dual schedule at Bakersfield (6 PM). Coach Joe Dansby, in his 24th year with the program, is only seven wins behind Hall of Famer Gary Meissner's school record of 130 dual victories. Dansby is the 6th Cuesta Wrestling Coach since the program began in the first year of Cuesta Athletics in 1965-66. The founding coach, former Cuesta Athletic Director Warren Hansen, is also 3C2A Hall of Famer. The match at Bakersfield in the first of six scheduled duals on the Cougars schedule, however "The Mat Cats" are also set to compete in the Southern Duals Tournament at Mt San Antonio on October 18
