Cuesta Softball opened the second round of Western State Conference play by hosting Moorpark. The Cougars lost to their Raiders, in Moorpark, to open their schedule against the circuit on March 5th with a run-rule loss, 15-7. The Cougars went the distance today, but suffered another setback, 14-6. Both teams came out swinging, with the Raiders posting four runs in their first turn at the plate, while the Cougars tacked up three runs of their own. The Cougars connected for four hits, half their total for the game, in the first inning. The Raiders posted a pair of runs in both the second and fourth innings, but Cuesta Centerfielder Cierra Cloud answered by slugging a three-run home run to keep the Cougars in range, 8-6. Unfortunately, the Cougars produced only two more hits in the game, while Moorpark added six runs in the 6th and 7th innings to put the game out of reach. Beyond Cloud's roundtripper, the Cougars battery of Catcher Brielle Burt (pict) and Pitcher Georgia Wilson split four hits on the day, including a Double by Burt. The loss dropped the Cougars to 11-21 on the season and 3-4 against the Western State Conference.
Cuesta shall continue its second swing through the WSC in Oxnard this Thursday (2 PM)
