Cuesta Softball took a break for Western State Conference's divisional play for a doubleheader in Bakersfield last Saturday. The Cougars matched up against the host Renegades, a 2025 Playoff team, and Grossmont, who made the trip from El Cajon. The Cougars opened with a win over the host Renegades, 4-3, on the strength of all-WSC Hurler Shelbi Griffith's complete game and Shortstop Abbey Jones. Jones, who bats leadoff for the Cougars, went 4-for-4 in the game, while scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. In the nightcap against Grossmont, the Cougars scored on a double-steal in the first inning, but managed only two more baserunners in the game, while, eventually, falling, 11-1. The Cougars are now 11-20 on the season and an even 3-3 in the WSC.
The Cougars shall return to their Western State Conference schedule for the rest of the season. Cuesta has six games remaining on the docket, including hosting Moorpark this Tuesday (2 PM), before closing at Oxnard on Thursday (2 PM).
