Cuesta Softball is currently one-game out of second place in the Western State Conference with two games remaining against the circuit. The Cougars are officially tied with Santa Barbara for 3rd place, however the rival Vaqueros were only able to play six non-conference games this year, so they do not have enough contests under their belt to qualify for the post-season. The Cougars, at 20-13, have enough games, but need to catch current runner-up Moorpark to claim the WSC's second automatic playoff berth or hope for an at-large bid. The Softballers lost at Santa Barbara, 4-1, on March 20, which dropped them to 9-9 overall, but they rallied after the setback. Cuesta will be riding an 11-4 run into Tuesday's (2:30) showdown. The Cougars also have a bye this Thursday, after receiving a forfeit from Los Angeles Pierce. Cuesta shall also play three games the final week of the season, as they chase their second straight post-season berth.
Softball improved to 20-13 overall and 8-4 in the Western State Conference, after splitting two road games against the loop last week. The Cougars opened the week on Tuesday with a decisive run-rule victory against local rival Allan Hancock, 14-1, in five innings, but were also shutout by loop-leading Ventura on Thursday, 4-0. The Cougars, who reached the playoffs last year for the first time since 2015, have posted three straight 20-win seasons.
