Cuesta Cross Country traveled to Woodland Hills last Friday for the 2025 Western State Conference Championships. The men finished 2nd overall, behind WSC Champion Weston Greenelsh (pict-L), while the women clamed 4th place in the 13-team event. The women were paced by Freshman Selena Trejo (pict-R), who finished 8th overall and led the Cougars for the first time this season.
On the men's side, 2024 State Champion Weston Greenelsh picked up his third victory of the season and announced that the road to the State Title shall go through him. Fellow Sophomore John-Paul Walsh joined Greenelsh on the 2025 All-Western State Conference First Team, after lopping off almost a full minute off his previous season-best, 21:55 to 21:08. Freshman Jeff Mendonca, who led the Cougars in their first two races of the season, and First-year Harrier Anthony Frere finished 18th (21:31.1) and 25th (21:44.1), respectively, to grab a spot on the all-WSC Second Team, while Freshmen Alex Schindler completed the Cougars' scoring team in 36th Place (22:40.2).
Freshman Selena Trejo paced the Cuesta Pack at WSC Championships, as the Cougars landed two harriers on both the WSC's first and second teams. Trejo, who led the Cougars for the first time this season, finished 8th overall (20:21.2) and was joined on the all-WSC First Team by Rebekah Waterbury, who also cracked the Top 10 (20:23.9). Freshmen Isabella Efner (20:55.5) and Sophia Esparza Perez (21:41.8), both finished in the Top 25, 17th and 25th respectively, while Freshman Sarah Garcia finished 50th in the 70-woman race to complete Cuesta scoring team.
The Cuesta Harriers have a two-week break to recover and prepare for their next event- the 2025 Southern California Regional Meet. The Cougars shall return to San Diego's NTC Park, where they previously competed in the SoCal Preview on October 10. The men finished 7th out of 30 teams in that race, while the women landed in 12th place.
