Cuesta Harriers Challenge UCSB and Cal Poly at the Gaucho Twilight Run

Cuesta Cross Country was one of five teams to compete in the in UC Santa Barbara's Gaucho Twilight Run at The Mission Club in Lompoc last Friday.  The Cuesta men took 4th place overall, behind Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara and the Cal Poly Distance Club, while Cuesta's women team did not field a scoring team. 

 3C2A State Champion Weston Greenelsh finished 16th (25:50.8) to lead the Cougars, while teammate Jeff Mendonca (27:55.5- 27th) and John-Paul Walsh also cracked the Top 30 (27:28.2).  Freshmen Alex Schindler and Sophomore Aiden Gibson completed Cuesta scoring team in 36th (28:32.7) and 45th (32:14.9) place, while Freshman Ivan Behr crossed the line a less than two seconds behind Gibson.  

The women's team had only four harriers on the course and that quartet ran as a pack.  All four of the Cougars finished the race between 31st and 39th places.  Freshman Isabella Efner led the Cougars for the fourth time in four starts this season, while landing in the 31st place with a time of 25:34.7.  Freshmen Sarah Trejo was only two places and 21 seconds behind her in 33rd place (25:56.9) and only one runner was between Trejo and teammate Rebekah Waterbury (pict) in 35th (26:14.9).  Freshman Sarah Garcia closed the Cougars' Day at the races in 39th (31:43.5).  

Cuesta Harriers return to their training to prepare for the Pink in the Park Race in two weeks.  The race shall be hosted by Hartnell College in Salinas at Toro Park on October 3rd, with the women's race kicking off the event at 10: 30 AM.
