Cuesta Men's Water Polo travelled to Southern California for a three-day road trip and split six games, before returning to SLO. On Thursday the Cougars battled through an overtime loss at Biola, 13-12, before heading to the coast to pick-up a Western State Conference win at Santa Monica, 20-10. On Friday and Saturday, the Cougars participated at the Golden West Tournament. They opened strong with a victory over unranked El Camino, 20-7, before getting a measure of revenge for their two previous overtime losses against #5 American River. The Cougars, ranked #7, won in regulation, 15-12, to advance into Saturday's title bracket. The Cougars matched up with their host #1 Golden West in the semi-final. Cuesta took a 4-3 lead at halftime, but the host Rustlers adjusted during the intermission and kept the Cougars scoreless as they came back to win, 12-4. In the Bronze Medal game, #4 Orange Coast outlasted the Cougars by breaking a mid-third quarter tie, 6-6, and scoring the last four goals of the contest, 10-6. The Cougars are now 17-13 on the season.
Cuesta wraps up its regular season on Monday (TODAY!) with a non-conference game against visiting Long Island University. The Sharks made their way from the Empire State for a tour of the Golden State. The team from Brooklyn arrived on Thursday and made its way up the coast, while playing Orange Coast, Redlands, and Cal State Fullerton. After today's game, they shall head to the Bay Area to play Diablo Valley, before returning to their Borough. The Cougars next action shall be the Western State Conference Tournament in Ventura, November 6th-8th.
