Cuesta Men's Water Polo opened its Cuesta II Tournament with a pair of lopsided victories. The Cougars began the day with a designated Western State Conference (WSC) game against Citrus, before closing against Cabrillo. The Cougars made quick work of their conference rival by taking an 11-1 lead in the opening quarter. The Cougars slowed their pace and added only four more goals before halftime and joined the Fighting Owls with five goals each after the intermission, while on their way to victory, 20-8. The nightcap against Cabrillo was more of the same, as the Cougars topped the unranked Seahawks by posting a team season-high for goals in the win, 25-8. All American Johnny Starr led Cuesta with nine goals on the day, while a dozen of his teammates also added at least one tally to the Cougars' cause. Cuesta's pair of triumphs improved their overall season record to 12-10, while their win over Citrus kept them atop the WSC rankings with a 3-0 mark against the loop.
The Cougars shall close out their Cuesta II Tournament with another pair of contests on Saturday. Cuesta opens the day at sunrise against San Diego Mesa (7:30), the top team in the Pacific Coast Conference, before closing the event with San Mateo (2:30).
