Cuesta Men's Water Polo returns to SLO this week, after two weeks on the road playing, mostly, against four-year schools. The 10th-ranked Cougars are set to host five games this week, starting with a men's and women's Western State Conference (WSC) doubleheader on Wednesday. The Cougars shall face WSC rival Ventura, who is currently a half-game ahead of Cuesta in the WSC Standings and two spots ahead of them in the 3C2A rankings, at #8 in the polls. Cuesta's Poloists shall continue their homestand on Friday and Saturday with the Cuesta II Invitational. The Cougars open the event on Friday morning with another WSC contest against Citrus (9:10), before closing the event's first day versus Cabrillo (4:10) from the NorCal Regional. On Saturday, Cuesta completes the tournament against a pair of unranked foes who boast winning records, with San Diego Mesa (7:30) and San Mateo (2:30).
Last Saturday, the Cougars travelled to the City of Angels for a pair of games against four-year programs, Pomona Pitzer and Whittier. Cuesta opened the day with a win over Pomona Pitzer, 17-12, behind Freshman Dustin Drobeck's career-high seven goals, before getting clipped by Whittier in a seesaw battle that went down to the final whistle, 16-15. The 10th-ranked Cougars are only 9-10 on the season, including a 3-5 mark outside of 3C2A play.
