All-State Harrier Anthony Frere broke out is sophomore season to become of the State's elite runners. Last year, Frere took 4th place in the Western State Conference in the 800-meters and missed the State Meet, but he came back strong in his sophomore campaign. After helping the Cougars earn a team appearance at the 2025 State Cross Country and earning a Western State Conference title in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs, he narrowed his focus to his best event. He entered only the 800-meters at the State Meet and posted an elite time on his way to a Bronze in the 800-meters at the 2026 3C2A State Championships. Frere, over the year, dropped a full six seconds off his freshman time, while moving into second all-time at Cuesta for the event. His final time, 1:52.11, is the fastest by a Cuesta Harrier over the past half-century and trails only Mike Bisbee's 1977 school record. His performance this Spring also earned him recognition as Cuesta Men's Track & Field's nominee for the Cuesta Athlete of the Year Award.
The men finished the season 2nd in the Western State Conference, for the second straight year and 13th at the 3C2A State Championships.
