Greenelsh Leads Men's Track Back to the State Meet
Cuesta Men's Track & Field has qualified four athletes to compete in six events at the 2026 3C2A State Championships this weekend at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut. '

The Cougars are led by Harriers Weston Greenelsh and Anthony Frere, who each qualified for two events.  Greenelsh is the Cougars' reigning Athlete of the Year and is chasing his fourth State Championship of his career.  Greenelsh has won the past two 3C2A State Cross Country titles and will also defend his 2025 title in the 5,000-meters this weekend.  He will also pair with his teammate Anthony Frere in the 1,500-meter race. Frere is also the top-seed in the 800-meters and ranks 4th all-time at Cuesta for the event, just 11-hundreths behind Greenelsh, and also ranks 9th for the metric-mile. Greenelsh, who has not improved his times in the 1,500 or 5,000-meters this season, remains the man to beat.  It should be noted that he also split the difference between his two best events, by moving up to 3rd all time at Cuesta in the non-championship 3,000-meters; just behind 2016 Cross Country State Champion Sean McDermott.

In the field events, Pole Vaulter Matthew Taylor (pict) and Javelinist Heath Jones are both threats to reach the podium.  Taylor, who began the season as the Cougars' top Decathlete, developed into a top-flight pole-vaulter.  Jones has focused on the Javelin all season and earned himself a spot at State after a 6th place finish, despite throwing 15-feet shorter (157-6) than his season-best mark of 171-1.
