The Cuesta Men's Track and Field team finished second at the 2026 Western State Conference Championships. Individually the men claimed five events on the weekend and were led by Sophomore Harrier Anthony Frere (pict-L), who took the title in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs. Frere's double-victory came alongside his teammate and defending 3C2A Champion Weston Greenelsh (pict-R), who finished 2nd in the metric mile, later claimed another title on the track by winning the 5,000-meters. The men also received a pair of titles from their flyers. Decathlete Matthew Taylor soared to the top of the podium by clearing a season-high 13-7.25 in the Pole-Vault, while Freshman Zayne Ellison joined Taylor as the WSC Champion in the Long Jump, before taking 4th in the Triple Jump. Sophomore Alexander Oldham competed as a true track and field athlete. He took 3rd place in the High Jump, with a season-best soaring over 6'2.25, before hitting the lanes. He finished 4th in the 400-hurdles with a season-best time of :44.08 and anchored the Cougars' 4x400 Relay on the way to 5th place (3:25.95). In the throws, Anthony Owens earned all-WSC Honors in the Shot Put and Hammer, where he tossed a season-best mark of 130'5", while Sophomore Heath Jones also earned the Silver in the Javelin. The Cougars can now move to the next step of their month-long journey to the 2026 3C2A State Championships.
After two weeks of battling through the Western State Conference, the next fortnight of competition shall be at the Southern California Regional Preliminaries and Finals. After a full lunar cycle of qualifying events, the best-of-the-best shall earn a place at the 2026 3C2A State Championships in mid-May.
