Cuesta College shall host the 2026 3C2A Regional Multi-Event Championship this Tuesday and Wednesday. The event has been separated from the format of both the conference and regional meets to allow all the multi-sport athletes to compete on level ground. The participants scores shall be used for scoring in both regional and conference championships, while also serving as qualifying marks for the 2026 3C2A State Championships.
After the Regional Meet, the Cougars will split their squad with the distance team headed North for the Mike Fanelli Open at San Francisco State on Friday and Saturday, while everyone else, besides the distance and the Hep/Dec athletes, head South for the Moorpark Invitational on Friday. The Cougars will enjoy a bye next week and return to action at the 2026 Western State Conference Preliminary meet on April 17.
Last week, the Cougars sent a small squad to Montecito to compete in the Westmont Open. Harriers Rebekah Waterbury, Selena Trejo and Isabella Efner represented the women's team, while Freshman Decathlete Matthew Taylor and Middle-Distance Runner Zachary Rubin represented the men's team. All three Harriers qualified for the 2025 State Cross Country Championships and earned all-WSC Honors, including first team honors for Waterbury and Trejo. Waterbury and Trejo also finished together at Westmont, with Waterbury less than two seconds ahead of Trejo, 20:12.90 to 20:14.40. Efner was not far behind and landed in 5th place overall (20:33.37), as all three set personal records. On the men's side, Decathlete Matthew Taylor got a chance to concentrate on the pole vault, before competing in the Decathlon this week. Taylor cleared a season-best 13' 5.25" to win the event. Rubin competed in both the 40 and 800-meter runs. He placed 4th in the 400m with a season-best time of :52.80, but was almost three seconds off his mark, while finishing 10th in the 800-meters (2:03.28).
