Sophomore Harrier Anthony Frere competed in two events and posted two personal best times at last weekend's Oxy Distance Carnival in Los Angeles. Frere opened the event with the 800-meters, where he was joined by teammate Zachary Rubin in a field of 89 participants. He cleared the course in career-best time of 1:55.14, which earned him 8th place in a field of 89, while also moving him into 8th all-time at Cuesta for the fastest mark by a Cougar. Frere also challenged his teammate and defending State Champion, Weston Greenelsh, in the 5,000-meters. Frere was unable to pass his three-time State Champion teammate but posted a season-best time of 15:38.25 and finished a respectable 89th out of a field of 217 harriers. Frere owns the Cougars' fastest time in the 800-meters this season and ranks behind only Greenelsh in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000-meter races.
Cuesta Track & Field travels to Ventura this Friday (Noon) for the 2026 Western State Conference North Meet.
