Cuesta Track & Field has entered its monthlong championship season and the Cougars are looking tough to beat. The men's and women's teams combined to earn four titles in event finals at last weekend's WSC Preliminary Meet and are in 2nd and 1st place, respectively. The men earned 27 points in the Long and High Jumps, while the women competed in both jumps, but added the Discus and Hammer. The women are currently atop the leader board and boast a 35-point lead going into the finals.
The men's team was led by Leapers William Dawes, Joey Mikles and Gavin Beck. Dawes opened the day with 3rd place in the High Jump (6-0.75), before leading a trio of Cougars into the Long Jump. Dawes cleared 22-1.5 to win a WSC Title in the Long Jump, while Mikles (21-8.75) and Beck (21-6.75) earned all-conference in 3rd and 4th place, respectively.

The women's team won all four of the contested finals held at the preliminary meet. Freshman Mia Martin cleared 5-3 to win the High Jump, while Kiana Marie Lambert flew 17-6.75 to win the Long Jump. Freshman Kristy Huynh also added three points in the Long Jump after covering 15' 3.25" for 6th place in the event. Cuesta's Throwers added the rest of the points for the women. In the Discus, the multi-talented Kiera Taylor won the first of her two conference titles, while she joined four of her teammates on the leader board. Taylor took the competition title with a throw of 130-10, while her teammate Jaide Tappan took the Silver at 112-7. Returning all-WSC Thrower Harper Clark and Freshman Isabella Saenz also scored in the 6th (98-1) and 8th (79-11) places, respectively. Taylor also claimed the Shot Put title with a throw of 35-4, while Tappan (30-2.75) and Clark (28-7) finished 5th and 6th in the event.
The 2025 Western State Conference Track & Field Championships shall wrap-wrap Friday (Noon) with the WSC Finals. the top performers in next weekend's event shall advance to the CCCAA Regional Preliminaries the next week.
