Triumphs and accolades continue to pour in for 2025 Cuesta College Athlete of the Year Grant Huston. After earning all-Western State Conference First Team honors, while leading Cuesta Men's Water Polo to its 46th straight playoff berth, he has retuned to cominant the lanes. Huston has enjoyed an unprecedented run this season, despite being the man everyone is trying to chase down. The reigning 3C2A Swimmer of the Year has already surpassed his freshman season and leads the State in almost every event. He also broke six Cuesta records and currently owns 17 of the Cougars' 18 swimming records, while currently ranking #2 in the rarely swam, non-championship 50-backstroke. He is currently listed at #2 in the event, at :24.42, but still has time to close the "blink-of-an-eye" difference of 19-hundredths of a second to complete his sweep of the Cuesta record board. Across the State rankings, Huston boasts the 3C2A's top time in 14 of the 18 championship events. He also in range to claim three other events, ranks 2nd in the State for 50-breaststroke, 4th in the 50-backstroke and 7th in the 200-breastroke. Huston's 2026 time (:55.04) in the 100-individual medley, which is almost two seconds behind his 2025 Cuesta record (:53.94), ranks 30th in the State and, along with one-meter and three-meter diving, is one of the few events where he does not own a 3C2A State Top 10 mark.
Unfortunanley, swimmers are only allowed to compete in three individual events at the championship meets, so Huston will have to choose three events at both the this weekend's Western State Conference Championships and the 3C2A State Championships on the first weekend of May.
