2025 Cuesta Outstanding Athlete of the Year Grant Huston has nearly re-written the entire Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive Record Book over the past fortnight. In 2025, he was named the State Swimmer of the Year, after winning, the maximum, three individual state titles ats the CCCAA State Meet. However, over the year he also set eight school records and earned a Top 10 mark in eight of the other ten events. The past two weeks may have been the greatest in the program's history, as the Cuesta record book has become a study in Huston's dominance. Huston set five more school records last weekend to bring his season total to eight new records this season and the top mark in 16 of the Cougars' 18 official events. Huston, who also broke the school's oldest mark- 1998 Cuesta Athlete of the Year, Chris Lund's 1998 200-butterfly mark, is still chasing 2014 CCCAA State Champion and a fellow Cuesta Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year Georan Meendering and his100-backstroke record of :50.84. Huston sits third all-time for the event at :52.36 and ranks 8th at Cuesta for the 50-backstroke (:25.89), an event that was not officially kept for the men until 2015. Huston is currently blocked from the top spot inthe two-lap event by two of his current teammates. Freshman Zach Pechan currently owns the top spot in the 50-backstroke at :24.23, while fellow Freshman Jett Hardy ranks third (:25.05).
Huston and the Aqua-Cats return to action this Friday (11:30) with a Western State Conference Mini-Meet in Van Nuys at Los Angeles Valley College.
