Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for May is Swimmer Grant Huston
Co-State Swimmer of the Year Grant Huston enjoyed a dominant freshman season at Cuesta and capped his campaign with an MVP performance at the 2025 CCCAA State Championship Meet. Huston won all three of his individual events taking the 100 (:44.26), 200 (1:37.69) and 500 (4:24.98) freestyle events, while also setting three new Cuesta records. Huston has torched the Cougars' record book this season and capped his year at the 2025 CCCAA State Championship as the co-State Swimmer of the Year. Huston's versatility shined all season, but his real triumph was his season finale. Despite his versatility, he competed in the three most popular and tightly contested events at the CCCAA State Championships; the 100, 200 and 500-freestyles. He did not just win, but comfortably swept the competition, while also setting three new Cuesta Records. On the season, Huston set new records in eight of the program's 18 individual events, while posting an all-time Cuesta Top 10 mark in eight more. The only events in which he does not own a Top 10 time are the pure sprint, 50-freestyle, which he missed by just over half a second (:00.57) and the rarely contested non-championship 1000-freestyle. However, he did break the previous marks for both the 500 and 1,650-freestyles, by 13 and 19 seconds, respectively.
Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive posted its fourth straight Top 10 finish at the CCCAA State Championships since the pandemic and its 20th since 1990.
