Men's Basketball dives deeper into the Western State Conference (WSC) schedule this Saturday (5 PM) against visiting Moorpark. The Cougars have endured a slow start against the WSC and, after a bye this Wednesday, shall renew their chase for their initial win against the circuit when they host the Raiders. Moorpark enters the week 1.5 games ahead of Cuesta in the WSC standings, however the two foes have near identical records on the season. The Raiders are 10-10 overall, while the Cougars are a half-game back at 9-10.
The Cougars continued their slow start to WSC play with a pair of losses last week. The Cougars dropped a home game on Wednesday against local rival Allan Hancock, 81-70, and fell at Oxnard, 70-67, on Saturday. The Cougars' defeat in Oxnard represented their third single-shot loss of the season. The setback also marked their third straight loss to begin WSC play, which is a downturn the program has not seen since 2005. The Cougars also opened their 2005 WSC schedule with three straight losses, however they got their third loss back when Ventura's program was sanctioned and forfeited all of their victories from 1995 to 2007. In both 2009 and 2015, Cuesta won the WSC title, despite losing three conference games.
