Men's Basketball competed at the Grossmont Tournament in El Cajon last weekend and, after going 1-2, will enter a week below .500 for the first time this season. The Cougars opened the tournament on a high note with a win over the host Griffins, 80-77. The victory moved the Cougars into a bracket with #4 Yuba and #16 Copper Mountain and both the 49ers, 77-67, and Fighting Cacti, 79-69, were able to post a 10-point win over the Cougars. The losses dropped the Cougars to 5-6 on the season. Cuesta battled went with their best all weekend as the Cougars' starters averaged well over 30 minutes of floor time per game, which may have contributed to last weekend's progressive shooting slump. The team's shooting percentage dropped each game from both the field (46.7-41.8-36.5) and three-points (41.7-28.0-25.9), while the bench accounted for only 28 of the team's 216 points on the weekend. The Cougars enter this week with a 5-6 overall record but are ranked 32nd in the State.
The Cougars do not play again until this Saturday and the six-day layoff should help the team. Men's Basketball remains on the road for just a single game this week, which is also the first of two games against Hartnell. The Cougars play the Panthers in Salinas this Saturday (5 PM) and also open the Hancock Tournament with another "Cat Fight" on December 29.
