Baseball Completes Sweep of Oxnard, Face SBCC This Week
Cuesta Baseball took both ends of a doubleheader in Oxnard last Saturday, 11-1 (7 inn) and 19-2 in regulation, to improve to 9-7 overall, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the Western State Conference.

Sophomore Pitcher Tyler Smith earned the win in the opener, with four innings of shutout relief, while Jack Stannard took the decision in the nightcap.  Stannard handed a 12-1 lead off to a trio of relievers to close out his second victory of the season.  Three Cougars boasted a back-to-back multi-hit games in Oxnard.  Centerfielder Makani Nabarro and Catcher Jesse Saucedo joined Third Baseman Hank Hansen as they all enjoyed a four-hit day. Nabarro led the pack by going 4-for-5 on the day, while scoring five times and driving in two more runs.  Saucedo entered the weekend with only five hits on the season, but added four more, including a double and a home run, while scoring four times and posting four runs batted in.  Hansen, who has quickly become the major cog in the Cougars' offensive machine, actually saw his batting average dip to .404, after going 4-for-10, including a pair of bingles, in the doubleheader.  He also scored twice and driving in three runs.

Cuesta's Batsmen return to action this week with three games against the latest challenge to their three-decade-long reign over the WSC North.  The Cougars, since 1990, have missed the playoffs four times, while also collecting 20 conference titles, including three of the past four crowns.  This week the Cougars face their 2025 co-Champion Santa Barbara City for a three-game series.  Cuesta is set to host the Vaqueros on Tuesday (2 PM) and Saturday (1 PM), while the two teams also play in Santa Barabra on Thursday (2 PM).
