Cuesta is hosting #10 Saddleback for a three-game series this week. In the series opener, the Cougars took an early lead, 1-0, when Third Baseman Hank Hansen's RBI-Double plated Outfielder Justin Lemaster in the 1st inning. The Bobcats (ne' Gauchos) scored a pair of runs in each of the next two innings to take the lead, however the Cougars rallied again in the 5th inning. Hansen came back around and knocked another Double to drive in a pair of runs, before trotting home on a Balk to retie the game in the 6th, 5-5. The Bobcats rang their bullpen, again, in the 5th inning for their third, and last, pitcher of the game, Landon Gordon. The score di not show it, but the Cougars pounded Gauchos pitchers for 13 hits on the day, just one less hit than the Bobcats. All-WSC Infielder AJ Martinez and First Baseman Sean Rivas tied with a pair of Bobcats by connecting for game-high three hits apiece, however the Cougars' defense also made some costly miscues in the field, including a season-high four errors. The Bobcats closed behind Gordon's pitching and kept the Cougars' bats quiet over the last four-plus innings, while they claimed victory, 10-5. The loss dropped the Cougars to 4-7 on the season.
Cuesta and Saddleback shall continue their three-game series this Friday (2 PM) and Saturday (Noon) at Cuesta Field.
