Cuesta continued their season-opening homestand against Riverside with a doubleheader. The Cougars looked to even the series, after losing Friday's opener, and scored twice in the 3rd inning to take an early lead. The Tigers held the Cougars for the next few innings and tied the game, 2-2, just before the stretch. After the stretch, Riverside exploded with five runs in the 8th inning, but Cuesta responded. The Cougars, trailing by five runs, made a last push for victory in the 9th inning. Cuesta scored four runs but stranded the tying run at third base to end the game with another loss, 7-6. In the series finale, the Tigers held the Cougars to a single run and completed the sweep, 7-1. On the weekend, Cuesta's offense nearly matched the Tigers in hits, 32-to-28, while both teams slugged five extra base-hits on the weekend. After the pandemic, the Cougars and Tigers reignited their season-opening three-game series. Riverside, after losing the series in 2023 and 2024, has answered by sweeping Cuesta each of the past two years.
The Cougars return to action next week with a trip to Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California. The Mustangs were a playoff team in 2025 and shall host the Cougars for a pair of games on January 30th (2 PM) and 31st (Noon). Cuesta will be back in front of the Cougars' Faithful when they host Reedley on February 3 (2 PM)
