Cuesta Beats Moorpark, 6-1, and Turns Towards the Post-Season

Cuesta Baseball has concluded its regular season schedule but remains in contention for both a post-season berth and a Western State Conference title.  The Cougars are expected to earn their 6th straight playoff berth and 30th since 1990 but will have to wait for news of the program's 19th conference title, if Los Angeles Pierce can beat Santa Barbara City in Woodland Hills this Friday.  Today the Cougars beat Moorpark, 6-1, to keep their title hopes alive, while they await the outcome of current loop-leader Santa Barbara's season finale Cuesta is currently a half-game back in the standings, but remains confident, title or not, that the program shall receive another post-season berth.

The Cougars have been playing well in April and have posted a 9-2 record during the month.  Today, Starter Jack Stannard and Reliever Tyler Stephens combined to hold Moorpark to just one-run on five hits as Cuesta's offense pounded out seven hits, and earned seven walks, to keep the bases full of Cougars.  The Cougars' usual suspects, Centerfielder Aidan Botti (pict) and First Baseman Tristan Usher, led their offensive charge.  Botti, from his leadoff spot, went 2-for-3, including a Double and Triple, while scoring once and driving in a pair of runs.  Usher, after two singles in the first three innings, was intentionally walked in his next two turns at the plate, however he still pounded out a third single to lead off the 8th inning.  Seven of the Cougars' batsmen connected for, at least, one hit in the game, while six different players accounted for a run in the team effort.  Cuesta finished the regular season with a 25-12 overall record, including a 17-6 mark in the WSC circuit.
