Cuesta Baseball earned its 28th playoff berth over the past 32 seasons, however the Cougars' first foray beyond the first round of playoffs since 2016 was short lived. The Cuesta Nine advanced to the CCCAA Super Regional after an historic comeback to beat a hard slugging Glendale team in the First Round but dropped their first two games at last weekend's Super Regional at Palomar College in San Marcos. Cuesta opened the Regional against Mt San Antonio and posted two runs in their first at bat and held a 5-1 lead by the 3rd inning, however that is where they stayed. The Mounties closed the game by scoring in six straight innings to command a 17-5 triumph. The setback forced the Cougars to stay on the field and play Regional host and #2-seed Palomar in an elimination game. The Cougars won two elimination games their first-round playoff series against Glendale to reach the Super Regional, but the Comets were playing both fresh and at home. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead, after Third Baseman Mikey Bell (pict) smacked a 2-RBI, single to open the games' scoring. Cuesta added five more runs in the 5th inning and entered the 8th inning with the lead, 7-5. The Comets used their homefield advantage by tying the game with two runs in the 8th inning, which was followed by a game-winning, walk-off home run in the 10th inning by Catcher Makana Olaso. Palomar advanced to the CCCAA Regional Finals, after eliminating Mt San Antonio on Friday, (9-8, in 10inn), and Saturday, 12-7.
Cuesta finishes the season with a 32-13 overall record, while boasting the program's best win total since 2008. The Cougars also finished in 2nd place in the Western State Conference, while earning their 28th playoff berth since 1990.
Note- All-Conference and all-Region awards shall be announced at the conclusion of the playoffs.
