Cuesta's Sand-Spikers shall host their final home matches with a doubleheader at Pismo Beach this Friday. The Cougars open against Moorpark (10 AM) and take a break as the Raiders take on Santa Monica, before closing the day against the Corsairs (1 PM). Games shall be played Pismo Beach Volleyball Courts, just North of the Pismo Pier.
Last week the Cougars travelled to Bakersfield for a twinbill against Ventura and the host Renegades. The Pirates beat the Cougars, 4-1, in the opener, while Bakersfield claimed the nightcap, 3-2. The Cougars' only win against Ventura came at the #1 position as returning all-WSC Spiker Bailey Woodside and Freshman Cayley Brown paired at #1 for the first time this season. The duo battled to a three-set win (22-20, 17-21, 16-14) against the Pirates, before also getting the win at the top spot against Bakersfield (21-17, 21-19), as the Cougars fell one win short of victory against their hosts. Against Bakersfield, Cuesta's #5 pair of Freshman Nikki Gill and Sophomore Alexis Waltz rallied to force a third set and picked up the Cougars' other win against the host Renegades (6-21, 21-14, 15-12). Cuesta's winningest duo, Brynn Bennett and Amelie Lo Jocano, who have five wins this season, split their first two sets (16-21, 22-20) to Bakersfield, but dropped the tiebreaker (15-11). Cuesta's Sand Spikers are now 5-13 overall and 1-7 in WSC play.
