Cuesta Wrestling opened the 2025 season with 5th place at last Saturday's Sacramento Tournament.  The Cougars arrived with 18 mat-men and boasted an overall mark of 43-29 individual match record.  Returning All Americans Preston Scharf (5-0) and Chance Evans (4-0) joined Grant Eklund (3-0), the Cougars' all-time single-season win leader, as they all went undefeated in their divisions, while the team posted a combined record of 43-29  Fellow returners, All American Preston Scharf and Grant Eklund, also went undefeated in the Capitol, while the veteran trio currently boasts the top three career winning percentages (2 years & 30 bouts) on record at Cuesta. Scharf (33-3) currently holds the mark program's highest career winning percentage 91.2%, while Eklund (40-7) is chasing at 85.1 and Evans (33-7) is sitting just behind the previous leader Dan Martinez (84%) with 82.5%.  Fellow returning State Qualifiers Dom Marquez (133), and Luke Vanbrabant (!49) also enjoyed strong starts to their sophomore campaigns with matching 5th place finishes.   

The Grapplers jump back into action this weekend at the Lemoore Tournament on Saturday, September 27.
