Men's Water Polo Coach Greg Enloe was recognized as the 2023 Western State Conference Coach of the Year, after taking over the program a month into the season. Enloe accepted his first collegiate head coaching position with a team that had been on campus for six weeks and was a month into the competitive season. Luckily, the Cougars were stocked with veteran leadership that was previously mentored by two-time CCCAA State Coach of the Year John Marsh. Unluckily, the month before he was hired the vultures were circling and wooing Cuesta players to bolt to four-year schools, while other players committed to Redshirting to save their eligibility. Enloe's presence was a salve for the anxious Cougars and the program went back to work, winning games and making another deep run in a quest for a CCCAA State Title. Enloe quickly skyrocketed to an elite level of coaching and in his first year at the helm guided the program to more milestones. His men claimed the program's 1,000th victory on October 18, while simultaneously winning its 31stconference title in a victory over LA Valley, which also clinched the program's 44th straight playoff berth. Enloe also guided the Cougars to their second straight trip to the CCCAA State Final Four. The Cougars earned Third Place in the State, which marked the program's best finish since 2006. The Cougars went 23-13 for the season, including 18-10 with Enloe at the helm. In the Spring, Coach Enloe claimed another Western State Conference title with Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive. The Cougars also placed 5th at the 2024 CCCAA State Swim & Dive Championships.
This award recognizes the highest level of coaching achieved at Cuesta College during a year of competition. It was developed in 1996 but was not officially presented in 2009. The award is based on a mathematical formula that weighs a coach's individual performance as well as the on-field success of his/her team.
